Although there are gifts purchased and arranged wrapped carefully and placed underneath our Christmas Tree’s, with Love spread through cookies baked and food prepared, we need not to forget the ‘Reason for the Season’ and none of it would be if it weren’t for our Heavenly Father sending a Baby to be ‘Born a Savior for the Whole Entire World.
Yes, it’s good to get things and give things but let’s remember our Little Jesus…His mother a virgin, told by the Lord’s Angel ‘you are highly favored! The Lord is with you, do not be afraid, again the Angel says ‘You have found favor with God, you will give birth to a Son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most-High.’ Mary asked how could this be “I am a Virgin”? The Angle answered and said that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and the Power of the Most-High will overshadow her, so the Holy one can be born and be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:26-38 paraphrased). Luke 1:37 NIV. For nothing is impossible with God. Mary replies “I am the Lord’s servant, “May it be to me as you have said.” Wow!
Traveling to safety during her last trimester on a camel, phew…I don’t want to even imagine her discomfort, in more ways then one. Her husband to be was getting ready to divorce her quietly, but an Angel appeared to him and told him not to be afraid and to take Mary as his wife. Arriving in Bethlehem there were no rooms, really how could this get any worse…Well God wanted to humble Himself as low as He could so He set it up this way, God could have had anyone give up their bed or invite them into their home even as strangers to give birth to a Baby but nope, God has this story come alive exactly how He intended it to be, Jesus was no better than anyone else, Jesus was born in a manger with the stable animals.
So, as your out and about doing your Christmas thing…Getting your Christmas on… remember the Christmas Story, reflect there and thank God for sending us His Son, even to be born in a manger our Savior of the World came to save us from our sins.
