Holding on to unconfessed sin is not something we should be doing.
Reasons:
#1 Healing cannot begin within yourself with junk buried there. Psalm 32:1&2 NIV. 1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven whose sins are covered. 2 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.
#2 Your body will start to dwindle away and corrode from the inside out. Psalm 32:3 NIV. When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
#3 God will not be able to rebuild you, when you try and hide things from Him. (He knows all, yes, but He still needs to be invited). Psalm 32:4&5 NIV. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”-and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Out with it…
For too long we try to duck, cover and run away from all the things we did wrong, but there still there attached to the un-healing part of keeping things in and buried deep down inside, so I am here to encourage you if your tried, weary, not feeling well chances are your unconfessed sin is bubbling up and you need to remove it before it removes you. Even in the Psalms - David tells how the sin he was holding onto was killing him. God knows all about us every fine detail, since he already knows call it out from deep within, so God can come into those darkened crevassed places and plant some light in there so the beautiful things God has instore for your life can have the room to grow and you can become who God has called you to be, the more uprooting you do the more flourishment can be fulfilled.
Years ago when I accepted God little by little I have been able to chip away the blackened corners within, I was reluctant to ever let some of these out, but one day watching a popular Christian speaker talk about her raw faith in the Lord and the importance of sharing her life story with others, to bring God glory, just struck me, she was vulnerable beyond what I ever thought I could do; but her trust in the Lord to share some of the deep darkened areas in her life saved others – ones who were God’s daughters and others who finally decided to accept Him (since it was a ladies retreat). That was outstanding to me. The trust she had for the Lord to carry her through these sharing moments, allowed me to realize when we can relate to one another healing can begin in both our lives or in a group, we can stand stronger together not because of the been there done that and got through it but ‘Who’ gets us through. We are to boast in the Lord, we are to share to Good-News and well the Good-News for her story was that God saved her from suicide and He had done the same for me. Looking back on my entire life the time before I knew God, the time I met God and now, God has definitely saved my life to.
I’m beginning to stand up straight on my feet again, proud of how far I have come, but only because God has had my hand and I walk with Him upright and true, trusting God is the best plan for all of our lives and I encourage deeply to not be ashamed of who you are, where you have come from and who’ you belong to, embrace the moment right now that God lifted you up and put you on your feet again, and with your hand in His your sins are no more, and you are so very much loved and special to God. People you bump into along your life path you can eventually share little ‘tid- bits’ of your broken life, and how far God has brought through; healed you, restored you, redeemed you, delivered you. When you relate to other’s they will find the courage to confess sins and follow the Good-News, God’s hand of mercy and true love.
Father God, I pray that those holding onto unconfessed sin can find that trusting you with the details is what will, set them free. They’ll be able to gain from You, flourishment of life, not carrying on with a sinful nature, no more. Lord, I pray they will find in you their salvation and know you’re the Mighty God who saves and loves all. I pray blessings over your people and pray a covering protection of mercy over them in Jesus name, Amen.
