Running on Feelings…

The enemy uses feelings in a negative way to distract you, your clarity is then fogged and emotions will run wild on you.
The Lord on the better hand, will use your feelings to break down strongholds. He will use your senses in your feelings as ways to cope with someone’s heart who is troubled, when we need to stand with someone through a burden shouldering their burden to make a way of hope for them, praying through the circumstance and showing them a way through scripture to reestablish them in the Lord.
Having no emotion in our feelings toward someone in a tough spot would not be helpful because we wouldn’t be earnest in the way the Lord wants us to be providing them with the helping stepping stone that the Lord provides for them and you.
Here are ways your feelings can get the best of you:
You hear bad news – feelings run because your first response is panic and that sets in emotions they arise and your fogged in emotionally controlled by your feelings. If Jesus were to be run by His feelings going to the cross, He would have never made it, but when His emotions came, He went to the Father He sweat blood that is how much emotion He had but He went to God not allowing His feelings to overtake Him and when He was strengthened, He returned on His predestined journey God laid ahead of Him to do. I’m so glad Jesus run on feelings, aren’t you?
This scripture is a true example in how to hone in your feelings and go to God for what you need most.
Matthew 26:36-39 NIV. Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
WE serve God because its right, honorable and good, every other way is deception from the enemy. When we received the Lord into our lives, we committed to serving a wonderful Lord as a deposit we gained a beautiful internal gift the Holy Spirit to remind us all of our salvation and restore our sinful lives into new beginnings. If you truly want to know your purpose and why you are here stop running on feelings and open the Word of God, its all mapped out… every situation you’ll face there’s answer, every answer you seek, the Holy Spirit will guide you to the right answer, there was nothing Jesus didn’t face being tempted in the dessert and He conquered death, defeated it, looked death in its face the depths of hades and made a way for each of us to face each trial of feelings too. We no longer fear death because our Lord Jesus is preparing a place for each one of us, when we leave this body, we gain a new body and we live forever in all eternity with our beloved. When Jesus was faced with the enemy in the dessert and He would have run of His feelings He wouldn’t have died and salvation for all of Gods people would not have been restored, Jesus kept focusing on what was truly important God and that’s the key that got Him through every test, every temptation, every obstacle He ever faced, He left feelings out of it and held closely to God – We must do the same and we don’t we loose sight in an amongst all the distractions the world throws at us and then all the enemy lies we believe and to top it off we let our feelings control our next steps.
It’s not how Jesus handled His journey, was it? No.
Jesus had feelings when feelings were meant to be shared and He never let them run Him ever because He asked God He’d go to the Father for every next step and sit with Him in quiet prayer alone away from the crowds and distractions away from even His disciples, He made this huge point that it was a very good thing, it was a perfect plan thing, it was a key to His journey and it should be a key to ours – lets sit awhile alone with the Lord and this is the best place to have emotion or feelings that we aren’t too sure how to handle but Go to the Father and allow Him to handle them for you, since He created each and everyone of us don’t you think this is the best place to be the most open, honest, and vulnerable is with our Heavenly Father – who knows us the most, its where Jesus went for every moment He needed clarity, strength, and direction. Could I say its almost easier for us now since Jesus gifted us with the Holy Spirit that lives inside of us. Adam and Eve walked with God and talked with God, the disciple’s walked with Jesus and talked with Jesus and Jesus went to God, we walk with God talk with God all authority is Jesus’ who sits with God so He also walks and talks with us now but we have been provided with a special gift of the Holy Spirit who lives in us, this may be a repeat but I cannot explain how deeply important this is our Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit “OURS” wow, God is so loving to give such a ______ I can’t even think of the right way to explain it in one word other than important, special (that I said already), priceless (although don’t mistake what I am saying here takes away from our Savior Jesus in any way because that gift is priceless too). Well, we know the Lord gives priceless gifts to those He loves so enjoy all He gives and another priceless gift is His time, He gives His undivided attention always, He’s listening to us when we speak to Him through prayer, praise, worship, fellowship with others, and always.
Another way to look at running on feelings I want to bring us to the book of Ruth – in a summary there were moments of running on feelings and then there were moments of clear clarity…. Naomi had just lost her husband and son she was probably in great distress, back then the mans name carried on property in generations of fields/land accumulated through men so the women’s name didn’t hold title or carry on the property, so Naomi had to go back to Moab or she’d have nothing except her daughter in law Ruth who had just lost her husband but she committed following Naomi and saying ‘Your God, is my God, I’ll go, where you go’. Running on feelings Naomi told the people she was to be called Mara (meaning bitter), for she said the Almighty has made my life very bitter. The turn around here in this story is that she never gave up and Ruth being with her gave her hope, a new direction to focus on instead of feelings.
There is way more to this story but the point is feelings get you caught up and stir an anxious pattern inside of you, I’m not saying that feelings are a bad thing I just want us all to realize getting caught up in them can make us make rash decisions or quick decisions that could have a negative effect. Ruth gleaned bits and pieces in a field that gave her barely enough to get by but her feelings could have taken her life but instead she pursued and kept going eventually she was saved, swept off her feet by her Kinsmen Redeemer and all that she had lost was restored and blessed even more, Gods grace and mercy, love and redemption are abundantly evident in this story and this is what He does for all of us too…I’ve been Ruth in some aspects of this beautiful love story romance because the Lord gave me a Kinsmen Redeemer too, My husband is my Boaz. But let’s look at this even deeper… Jesus is all of our Kinsmen Redeemers, think about it and ponder the love He holds for you to accept, it’s amazing.
In closing feelings are important, but try to not let them run you, you run them. From experience allowing or letting emotions run wild I remember getting caught up in emotions at one time or another and they can really affect your decision making. When someone has hurt me in some way I’d allow it to take me into a dark tunnel of depression, pull the covers up over my head and go to bed and not want to get out, now instead of allowing feelings to overtake me I pause and ask God what to do in how to handle the situation I face because I truly don’t know how to deal with it but God does and with time He will make a way, because He knows all ways, yours and mine and those who haven’t met and accepted Him yet, so leave it to Him.
Lord, I thank You that You can take on all the things I can’t, I thank You that You can help me hone in my emotions and help me not to let my feelings run over me like I have in the past. I thank You that You have helped me grow in so many areas of my life and since I only need to impress You, You, are impressed already with my constant choice of choosing You. Help us all to grow better, help us all to be better for those around us that don’t know You, help us to be a great example of You. I pray that we keep our feelings in check in a healthy way and that we lean on You and go to You more than we do others because You’re the Almighty not me, not my friends and not my family You are the Almighty and I thank You, in Jesus Precious and Holy name, Amen.
