Almost a year ago I sprained my neck and also suffered from a concussion… not a good time in my life.

A few days ago, I tweaked my neck and have been laid up… again… not having a good time.

When I decided to write this post, it was not because I wanted to complain, I really just want to push past my frustration in my situation to give you all encouragement on how to get through facing a tough time and maybe your tough time isn’t like mine its different but we can relate anyway. As I have said it before… “Adjust your sails and ride the wave…”

#1 Don’t Sulk.

My definition you begin to lower yourself and are in a state of a pout where you hunch down and this tells yourself everything around you is bad and your body has failed you completely, this may sound exaggerated but it’s true sometimes we act as though we are dying – and acting this way prompts other things to shut down or you will feel way worse and you will take way longer to heal. For me, yes, my neck helps me do things and I can’t do as much as I’d like with it this way but I’m not dying, it will get better. When I read the report of needing rest and healing time could be anywhere between a few days for up to 12 weeks, I decided I’m going to heal in a few days NOT 12 weeks, but if I focus on the negative side that would be my outcome and I don’t want that.

There may be moments you cry your eyes out but Do Not Sulk. Negativity drags you farther down and allows for more pain built up tension and makes things worse. Instead rise up and know that God is a good God and heals all wounds, positivity is Gods way and when we focus on what Gods Word says we are made well.

#2 Rest is Best.

Yes, you may have to move around a little but remember especially for me with a neck injury everything seems to be connected to my neck. (Sneezing, laughing, turning, walking) just be careful not to reinjure yourself moving too fast, but go outside and get some fresh air.

#3 Refocus your Mind.

Being angry and frustrated, yes, I get it, but it only makes matters worse. This may be a recap of #1 Don’t Sulk… but it’s true. Here’s the scoop… I could barley wash my hair, lifting my arms up was so painful being in that position, so I talked to God about it – praying and then worshipping Him singing to God and I managed, why because God loves me and when I worshipped Him in the moment of pain it took the focus off of me and my situation and reevaluated my dependence on Him and He got me through it.

When we go through anything in life and we are not depending on God and trusting that he will bring us through we will struggle more, but when we refocus our mind depending on God and trust Him to get us through, we will be better off and heal. Gods promises are Yes and Amen and the Bible is full of them.

Reflect on: The man was lame for 38 years and every time he tried to get into the healing water someone would go ahead of him, and no one would help him get into the water. Jesus asked him “do you want to get well?” the man kept making excuses so Jesus said “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” The man was healed and walked. Jesus warned him later when they ran into each other to stop sinning or something worse may happen to him and then the man knew it was Jesus who healed him. John 5:1-15 NIV.

Psalm 63:7&8 NIV. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV. For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so, through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Isaiah 53:5 NIV. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities: the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Heavenly Father thank You for healing me and giving me the ability to get some things done leaning on You, I thank You for allowing me to see that when I am laid up that I can still seek You and You will still be there. Lord I pray that Your people lean on You too during the times when they face a difficulty, I pray Lord they run to You instead of away. Lord I thank You for Your promises and pray that others seek them and find that they have promises for each one of them also. I pray healing for those who need a healing touch in their bodies from You Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
