Luke 10:38-42 NIV 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. (Firstly, have you opened your home to Jesus? Step #1). 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said, (Secondly, have you placed your-self at the Lord’s feet? Step #2). 40 but Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work myself? Tell her to help me!” (Thirdly, a warning about being too distracted to take a moment, so you don’t start to bark orders. Step #3). 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about things, (Forth, and foremost Jesus talked Martha down off her ledge by simply repeating her name ‘Martha, Martha, a calming gesture to her upset. Jesus reassured her. Step#4). 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." (Fifth, Jesus reminds what is more. Rushing preparations, no matter what or who they are for Jesus just wants us to acknowledge Him and spend time at His feet, waiting and listening. Step #5).

I want to reflect on this story in the Bible because this time of year I feel we need to be reminded to sit awhile, instead of do, do, do….

Yes we all have family/friends coming over meals to prep and cook, baking to satisfy watering mouths, decorations to set out to dress up the inside and the outsides of our houses for the change into the magical season of Christmas, but lets not forget as these may be important to place, set up and feed desirably hungry tummies we realize more the reason for the season than that of just treats and presents wrapped and then unwrapped under our trees, we wouldn’t be able to do without the Love of our Lord wanting us to rest in His glorious splendor of His presence, remember and allow for well needed and deserving breaks. Reflect this Christmastime to choose what is ‘Better’.

Psalm 34:8 NIV Taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
