Hebrews 2:1-4 NIV. 1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders, and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

I came upon this verse and couldn’t figure out why I had trouble writing; writing about it, and writing in general, as I pondered it and came back to it many times, also reading it in other translations for something to trigger a post…the ah hah! Moment finally arrived.

My kiddos are out of school for the summer and things are different, no agenda or schedule for them, but mine changed as well, my quiet time is shared and that meant my ‘Dates with God’ lacked… ☹ that’s when I realized why God pointed out this scripture in the first place.

Hebrews 2:1 ‘talks about not drifting away’… If I don’t stay focused – I will drift… If I don’t pay attention – I will get side tracked.

Hebrews 2:2 ‘talks about the message binding’… If I don’t take the Word of God seriously - I will lose out.

Hebrews 2:3 ‘talks about our confirmed salvation’… If I ignore it - I ignore the Lord.

Hebrews 2:4 ‘talks about God testifying to our salvation’… If I have experienced God’s greatness – what makes me better than the Lord by drifting… He has shown me signs, wonders, various miracles, and has given me gifts distributed by the Holy Spirit according to his will… - Therefore, this is not only my warning but for all of us that when schedules adjust, change or get disrupted, first things first ‘God’ everything else will fall into place… God gives air in our lungs to breathe God will make a way for our day.

Job 33:4 NIV. The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

When you are drifting God knows and He will bring us back, it’s up to us whether we listen or are aware of the redirection God so softly brings to our attention that we don’t get sidetracked and fall away, He loves and therefore He nudges…

Ezekiel 2:2 NIV. As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I have heard him speaking to me.

In the movie ‘The Notebook’ their love was so strong and real that as she was drifting away from her mate the love of her life, he read to her the very ‘love story’ about them – their love story – recorded in a book she wrote to him, as a reminder of their love, so that she’d always come back to him, and she eventually always did. The Bible is much like that a love story written for you and me as a love story and the best part about this book is that the ‘Author’ is the only ‘Author’ in love with His reader, and as we spend time in the Word the Lord will always notion us to come back to him. In ‘The Notebook’ movie the person reading to his love voiced the words written in their love story for her to come back to him and for short times, she did… when we spend time in the Word no matter where we are God will bring the Word to our attention and the best part is ‘One Day’ we will get to spend all eternity with the Lord and not wonder when we will drift in and out.

Bless your hearts.
